Tiantan Park in the morning at a glance
The Temple of Heaven stands inside a large park with old trees, wide paths and long covered corridors. The park opens earlier than the monuments, and many Beijing residents use it as their daily open-air space: for tai chi, for exercise, for music and for games. If you come in the morning, you see the park as a living neighbourhood place and not only as a setting for the halls.
The park opens at 06:00 from 1 April to 31 October and at 06:30 from 1 November to 31 March. Last entry is 21:00 and the park closes at 22:00. A park-only ticket costs CNY 15 in the high season and CNY 10 in the low season, as of 2026. The combined ticket (CNY 34 or CNY 28) adds the hall, the Echo Wall and the altar. Check our Temple of Heaven tickets page before you choose, and look at the Temple of Heaven tours if you prefer to have the park explained.

What happens in the park in the morning
These are everyday leisure activities, not a scheduled programme. What you see changes by day and by season.
Tai chi
Groups of mostly retired residents practise tai chi in the park in the early hours. It is the best-known morning sight and still happens today.
Shuttlecock and diabolo
Some people kick a shuttlecock around in a circle, others spin a diabolo. Water calligraphy is another sight in the park.
Singing and dancing
Choirs gather near the Double-Ring Longevity Pavilion, and you may see umbrella dances and tai chi groups elsewhere in the park.
Chess and cards in the corridor
In the covered corridor next to the pavilion, residents sit down to play chess. The Long Corridor is a common meeting place on any day.

The tai chi option puts you among the locals who exercise in the park.

Guided visits of the Temple of Heaven and its park, with live prices and availability. Check what each option includes, in particular whether entry tickets and the start time suit a morning visit.
Park first, halls at 08:00
An early park ticket does not let you into the hall, the Echo Wall or the altar before they open. Those buildings open at 08:00, and the last entry is 17:30 from 1 April to 31 October and 16:30 from 1 November to 31 March. The sequence that works is simple: the park first, then the halls.
| Time | What to do | Ticket |
|---|---|---|
| 06:00 or 06:30 | Walk the park, watch the morning activities | Park or combined ticket |
| Around 07:30 | Move towards the Danbi bridge | Combined ticket |
| 08:00 | Echo Wall, then altar and hall | Combined ticket |
| Late morning | Corridor, trees and the way out | Any |
For most visitors, the combined ticket is the right choice: you can start in the park and walk straight into the hall area at 08:00.

Be a good guest in someone's daily routine
The people you see are not a show. They come here for exercise, company and quiet. A few habits make the morning better for everyone.
- Ask before you take a close portrait, and respect a no.
- Do not step into a practice circle or walk through a dance group.
- Keep your voice low near singing and chess groups.
- Do not damage trees, walls or stonework; the whole site is a protected monument.
- Drones are not an option: all of Beijing has been controlled airspace since 1 May 2026.
Do not expect a fixed daily programme. There is no fixed daily programme of dancing or music, and lessons for visitors are not a standard service.

Getting in and out
Four gates open to the park, so choose the one that fits your morning.
East Gate
Metro Line 5 to Tiantandongmen, exit A. A good entry if you start at the park.
Getting there โWest Gate
Metro Line 8 to Tianqiao, exit C.
South and North Gates
The South Gate is where guide services start. A visitor service point is at the South or North Gate.
Monday
The hall, the Echo Wall and the altar close on Mondays, except on public holidays. A Monday walk in the park is possible, but plan for the monuments to be closed.
Opening hours โTiantan Park: frequently asked questions

At 06:00 from 1 April to 31 October and at 06:30 from 1 November to 31 March. Last entry is 21:00 and the park closes at 22:00.
Can I enter the hall early with a park ticket?
No. The hall, the Echo Wall and the altar open at 08:00. A park ticket gives you the park only; the combined ticket includes the monuments.

You will often see it, but it is not a scheduled show. The groups are residents, and who is there depends on the day and the weather.

Can I fly a drone in the park?
No. Since 1 May 2026 all of Beijing is controlled airspace, and bringing drones into the city is generally not allowed.
