Opening hours at a glance

The Temple of Heaven has two sets of hours. The park opens early and closes late. The main monuments, which are the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Echo Wall and the Circular Mound Altar, open at 08:00 and close in the late afternoon. High season runs from 1 April to 31 October, low season from 1 November to 31 March.

Last entry comes before closing time, so arrive well ahead of it. If you plan to see the halls, buy your Temple of Heaven tickets for a day other than Monday and book with the passport you will carry.

For most visitors the best plan is to enter the park early, walk to the halls for 08:00 and finish before last entry. The park ticket lets you in early, but it does not open the halls ahead of 08:00. Do not count on buying a ticket right up to last entry; arrive earlier.

Monday closures

The halls rest on Mondays again.

Since 1 September 2026 the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Echo Wall, the Circular Mound Altar, the Hall of Abstinence (Zhaigong), the north Divine Kitchen and the north Sacrificial Animal Pavilion are closed on Mondays. Statutory public holidays are the exception, so a holiday Monday follows the regular hours. Special summer openings are not a year-round rule.

The park keeps its own hours, separate from these monuments. A Monday plan can therefore include a walk in the grounds, but it should not include the halls. If your trip has a fixed Monday, spend it at Qianmen Street or in the park, and keep another day for the halls. The Zhengyangmen gate tower is also closed on Mondays.

Choosing a time of day

What each part of the day offers.

Early morning

The park opens at 06:00 or 06:30. Locals use it for tai chi, singing and games before the halls open, so it is the time for a walk, not for the monuments.

The park in the morning โ†’

08:00 to midday

The halls open at 08:00 in both seasons. Plan the Hall of Prayer, the Imperial Vault with the Echo Wall and the Circular Mound Altar for this window.

Late afternoon

In low season the last entry to the halls is 16:30, in high season 17:30. A late arrival means a rushed visit.

Evening

The park is open until 22:00, with last entry at 21:00, but the main monuments are closed. An evening ticket is for the grounds only.
